SkyWheel is Cool
Not just cool…SkyWheel is “Carolina cool!” The ride is the first in a series of monthly posts that will update readers on the groovy stuff happening up and down the Grand Strand. SkyWheel is this month’s cool pick.
SkyWheel, expected to open by summer, is the $12 million, 187-foot-tall Ferris wheel that will be nearly as tall as a 20-story building. It’s the largest Ferris wheel on this side of the Mississippi River. Forty-two glass-enclosed gondolas will seat up to six people. The ride will run year-round on its oceanfront spot next to Plyler Park which is on Myrtle Beach’s boardwalk. Evenings will be lit by an LED lightshow. It is speculated the ride will cost about $10 for eight to 12 minutes.
And when you’re finished going in circles, eat lunch or dinner at Jimmy Buffett’s popular Land Shark Bar & Grille where mostly outdoor seating will continue the ocean view. His other signature restaurants around Myrtle Beach are Margaritaville and Cheeseburger in Paradise.
