Carolina Cool: Six more weeks of winter? An HVAC Guide to Surviving Winter and Getting Ready for Spring
By S. Kim Henson
The news from Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania was six more weeks of winter. Despite Phil’s prediction, Carolina Cool’s customers are anxious for spring and to head outdoors. But first, follow this HVAC guide for surviving winter to assure your system and heating costs won’t bust the spring budget you’ve set aside for fun.
Energy Star reports that as much as half your home’s energy goes to heating and cooling. However, here are ways to beat the cost of cold weather.
• Change your air filter regularly, ideally once a month.
• Call Carolina Cool to install a programmable thermostat that can save up to $180 in energy costs per year.
• Call Carolina Cool to tune your HVAC equipment annually, preferably in the less busy seasons of spring and fall, or sign up for their HVAC Energy Savings Agreement.
To be sure servicing the unit is easy and economical, use good judgment getting ready for spring. Rocks or crushed stone are the best materials to put around your heating and cooling system. Either one allows for good drainage, keeps the unit dirt-free and permits Carolina Cool’s professional staff clean and clear access. Keep in mind it will be difficult to service your HVAC if it is surrounded by prickly plants like a holly bush, fragile flowers that you’re trying to preserve, or shrubbery planted too close to the unit.
