* There are lots more options for powering your water heater than most people realize. Depending on availability in your area, water heater power sources can include electric, natural gas, propane, fuel oil, solar and geothermal energy.
* There are more types of water heaters available than most people realize too. You can choose from standard storage tank, tankless, heat pump, solar or tankless coil & indirect.
* Standard storage tank water heaters are still the most common type. You can extend their lifespan by replacing your anode rod when necessary–if your water starts to smell strange, you’re probably overdue for a replacement.
* How often you should check if your anode rod needs replaced depends on the type of water you have. If you have hard water, check the anode rod every 3-5 years.
